Why I Chose Keio SFC and Japan

I have always wanted to live in Japan. I started studying Japanese three years before coming to SFC. My initial plan was to go to university in Germany and then come to Japan. However, after some research on my options, I discovered Keio SFC and was fascinated from the first second. Because I wasn't 100% confident in my Japanese then, SFC stood out as an international place where fluent Japanese is optional from the start. SFC feels both international and Japanese. This combination motivated me to come here.

Challenges and Upsides of Attending a Japanese University

Enrolling at a Japanese university was definitely a hard decision. I was worried about so many things. Is my Japanese good enough? Are there enough courses offered in English? How will it be in a different education system? These and many other questions were constantly in my head. However, the idea of connecting with Japanese students, learning about a new culture, broadening my horizons, and getting an education in a safe and economically stable country helped me with my decision.

Comparing Learning Environments at SFC and Universities Back Home

I always talk about this with my friends from Germany. SFC is freedom. You can take the classes you are genuinely interested in. The number of mandatory courses is minimal. In many other countries, including Germany, most of your university time is largely determined at the time of enrollment. SFC definitely allows you to focus on specific things. However, if you want to, you are also allowed to take classes on topics completely different from your initial major. This makes the learning environment at SFC something truly special.

Message to Prospective Students

Going abroad can be a challenge. However, it will enrich your life and be a good experience for personal growth. SFC will be the perfect place if you are looking for an international and Japanese campus. Do not worry too much before coming here. Keio will provide you with more than enough guidance. Good luck with your studies!
