Why I Chose Keio SFC and Japan
SFC's unique curriculum, career opportunities after graduation, and the culture of Japan were the main reasons I decided to come here. In particular, Seminars allow you to dive deep into your research interests and gain real-world experience, though environments like this demand a high level of self-discipline, motivation, and dedication. SFC is also the perfect place to learn about and adapt to a variety of cultures, including Japanese, thanks to the large number of international students.
Challenges and Upsides of Attending a Japanese University
Everyday life in Japan is very different from what I was used to--the transportation system, waiting in line, and even the way windows and showers work! The challenge becomes even greater when you don't know Japanese, though you'll be alright after some adaptation period.
People at SFC are incredible. They balance studying hard and having a vibrant social life. People enjoy their time together and build lifelong friendships--it's not just about networking. In my opinion, Japanese universities offer much greater career opportunities and support compared to those in other countries. A diploma from a top university like Keio SFC is a ticket to a great career.
Comparing Learning Environments at SFC and Universities Back Home
Not a single university in my country comes close to offering the learning and career opportunities at SFC. The curriculum is in-depth, and student life is brighter here! Professors are very open to interaction with students; they are willing to give advice, share their real opinions, and even provide informal mentorship through personal projects. The flexible curriculum allows me to discover and explore different fields, from microbiology and urban planning to software engineering and linguistics. SFC provides students with access to extensive resources, such as research and book databases and Bloomberg Premium. In addition, SFC organizes company events, career fairs, and various other programs to provide students with opportunities to meet leading experts from diverse fields.
Message to Prospective Students
Strike a balance between working hard and playing hard. University life opens up a new chapter, but with all the freedom, it's easy to get distracted. Stay grounded and make the four years the best investment in your life!
